Zayante is a census-designated place (CDP) in Santa Cruz County, California, United States. The population was 3,893 at the 2010 census. Zayante is located along State Route 17, about 4 miles (6 km) northwest of the city of Santa Cruz. The ZIP code for Zayante is 95083.

Zayante was originally inhabited by the Ohlone people. In 1839, the Mexican government granted Rancho Zayante to Rafael Castro. Castro used the land for ranching and farming. In 1848, after the Mexican-American War, California became part of the United States. The land was then divided up and sold to different settlers.

In the late 19th century, Zayante was a stop on the stagecoach line between Santa Cruz and San Jose. The stagecoach would stop at the Zayante Hotel, which was built in 1876. The hotel is now a private residence.

Zayante School District was established in 1879. The first schoolhouse was built in 1881 and is now a private residence. The current Zayante Elementary School was built in 1950.

Zayante is home to several small businesses, including a hardware store, a bakery, and a cafe. There are also a few wineries in the area.
