About Inyo County, California
Inyo County is a county located in the U.S. state of California. As of the 2010 census, the population was 18,546. The county seat is Independence.
The county is named after Mount Inyo, a peak in the Sierra Nevada.
Inyo County is home to the highest point in the contiguous United States, Mount Whitney, at an elevation of 14,505 feet (4,421 m). The Badwater Basin in Death Valley National Park, which contains the point of lowest elevation in North America, is also located in Inyo County.
The county has two national parks: Joshua Tree National Park and Death Valley National Park.
Inyo County is a land of extremes. It is home to the tallest mountain in the contiguous United States (Mount Whitney), and the lowest point in North America (Badwater Basin in Death Valley National Park). It is a place of great natural beauty, with towering mountains, pristine lakes, and desert vistas.
