Los Alamitos is a city in Orange County, California. The population was 11,449 at the 2010 census, down from 11,536 at the 2000 census. It is often considered part of the Greater Los Angeles Area or the Mid-Wilshire district. The Los Alamitos Race Course is located here. The city was incorporated on March 2, 1960.
The city of Los Alamitos is surrounded by the cities of Cypress, Seal Beach, Rossmoor, and Long Beach. Los Alamitos is located in Southern California, in the northern part of Orange County near the Los Angeles County border. The city is approximately 3 miles from the Pacific Ocean.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.8 square miles (12 km2), all land. Los Alamitos is bordered by Cypress on the west, Long Beach on the southwest, Rossmoor on the north, and Seal Beach on the southeast. The San Gabriel River forms the northwestern boundary of Los Alamitos.
