Avocado Heights is a census-designated place (CDP) in Los Angeles County, California, United States. The population was 15,164 at the 2010 census, up from 13,556 at the 2000 census.
Avocado Heights is located along the San Gabriel River Freeway (I-605), south of Puente Hills. It is bordered by City of Industry to the north, Whittier to the south and west, and La Habra Heights to the east.
The 2010 United States Census reported that Avocado Heights had a population of 15,164. The racial makeup of Avocado Heights was 8,564 (56.4%) White (40.3% Non-Hispanic White), 107 (0.7%) African American, 148 (1.0%) Native American, 1,359 (8.9%) Asian, 19 (0.1%) Pacific Islander, 3,322 (21.9%) from other races, and 496 (3.3%) from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 6,645 persons (43.9%).
The Census reported that 15,080 people (99.6% of the population) lived in households, 34 (0.2%) lived in non-institutionalized group quarters, and 50 (0.3%) were institutionalized.
There were 4,541 households, out of which 2,203 (48.6%) had children under the age of 18 living in them, 3,173 (69.7%) were opposite-sex married couples living together, 738 (16.3%) had a female householder with no husband present, 358 (7.9%) had a male householder with no wife present. There were 210 (4.6%) unmarried opposite-sex partnerships, and 25 (0.6%) same-sex married couples or partnerships. 534 households (11.8%) were made up of individuals, and 338 (7.4%) had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.”
