About Tara Hills CDP, California
Tara Hills is a census-designated place (CDP) in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 11,543 at the 2010 census. Tara Hills is located in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area.
The area now known as Tara Hills was originally inhabited by the Ohlone people. In 1823, the Mexican government granted Rancho El Pinole to Domingo Peralta. The rancho included present-day Tara Hills. In 1834, the Peralta family built a adobe house in present-day Tara Hills. The house is now part of the John Muir National Historic Site.
In the 1950s and 1960s, developers began building homes in Tara Hills. The community continued to grow in the 1970s and 1980s. Today, Tara Hills is a thriving community with a variety of housing options and amenities.
