Cayucos is a census-designated place (CDP) in San Luis Obispo County, California. The population was 3,595 at the 2010 census, up from 3,122 at the 2000 census.
Cayucos is located on the coast of California, about halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco. The town is situated on a small bay, and is popular with tourists and surfers. The Cayucos Pier is the only pier in San Luis Obispo County.
The climate in Cayucos is moderate, with average temperatures ranging from the mid-60s to the low 80s. The town receives an average of about 20 inches of rain per year.
Cayucos has a long history as a fishing village. It was originally settled by Chumash Indians, and later became a hub for whaling and commercial fishing. In recent years, the town has become known for its arts and crafts scene, and its many antique shops.
