Rio Linda is a census-designated place (CDP) in Sacramento County, California, United States. It is part of the Sacramento–Arden-Arcade–Roseville Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 15,106 at the 2010 census, up from 10,466 at the 2000 census. Rio Linda is located 12 miles (19 km) northeast of downtown Sacramento.

The Rio Linda CDP includes the unincorporated community of Rio Linda and surrounding areas. The original town was laid out in 1887 by the Rio Linda Land Company. A post office opened in Rio Linda in 1888, and the community was incorporated as a village in 1923. However, the village disbanded in 1926 due to financial difficulties. The name “Rio Linda” comes from a Spanish land grant, Rancho Rio de los Putos Arboles, which means “River of the Linden Trees.”

Today, Rio Linda is a growing community with a mix of older homes and newer developments. The community is served by the Twin Rivers Unified School District. There are several parks in the area, as well as a library and a community center.
