Oroville is a city located in Butte County, California, United States. The city is situated at the base of the Sierra Nevada foothills, about 90 miles north of Sacramento. Oroville is considered the gateway to Lake Oroville and the Feather River recreational areas.

The city was founded in 1848 during the California Gold Rush. The first European-American settlers were miners who arrived in search of gold. The town was originally called Ophir City, but the name was changed to Oroville when the post office was established in 1851.

Today, Oroville is a thriving community with a variety of businesses and amenities. The city is home to a number of schools, including Oroville High School, which is the alma mater of NFL player Aaron Rodgers.
