Pixley is a census-designated place (CDP) in Tulare County, California, United States. The population was 4,078 at the 2010 census, up from 3,317 at the 2000 census.
Pixley is located in central California, about halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco. It is part of the Visalia metropolitan statistical area.
The town was founded in 1884 by William F. Pixley, a former mayor of San Francisco. It was originally called Pixleyville, but the name was shortened to Pixley when the post office opened in 1887.
The economy of Pixley is based on agriculture. The main crops are grapes, cotton, and almonds. There are also a number of dairy farms in the area.
In recent years, Pixley has become home to a number of immigrants from Mexico and Central America. This has led to some tension with the native-born residents of the town.
