About Cold Springs CDP, California
Cold Springs is a census-designated place (CDP) in Sonoma Valley, Sonoma County, California, United States. The population was 1,984 at the 2010 census. It is named for a spring that provides cold water to a nearby vineyard.
The area now known as Cold Springs was first settled by Native Americans who used the spring for its medicinal properties. The spring was later claimed by Spanish missionaries who built a small chapel nearby. In the early 19th century, the area was part of Rancho Agua Caliente, a Mexican land grant.
In 1847, the property was acquired by George W. Crockett, an American settler. Crockett developed the land into a successful vineyard and winery. The Crockett family continued to operate the vineyard until the 1970s.
Today, Cold Springs is home to a number of small businesses and residential developments. The spring still flows and is accessible to the public.
