Lamont is a census-designated place (CDP) in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 3,040 at the 2010 census, up from 2,936 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Bakersfield metropolitan area.
Lamont was established as a community in the late 19th century and was named after one of its early settlers, William T. Lamont. The town originally served as a stop on the Southern Pacific Railroad line between Bakersfield and Los Angeles. Today, Lamont is still a small community with a population of just over 3,000 people. However, it has seen some growth in recent years due to its proximity to Bakersfield.
Lamont is located in the San Joaquin Valley, near the intersection of State Route 58 and Interstate 5. It is about 10 miles southeast of downtown Bakersfield and 30 miles north of Los Angeles.
