About Bodega Bay CDP, California

Bodega Bay is a census-designated place (CDP) in Sonoma County, California, United States. The population was 1,077 at the 2010 census. The town of Bodega Bay is located on the eastern side of Bodega Harbor. The town is now a resort community with a small fishing fleet. It is the primary location for the filming of the 1963 movie The Birds.

The area around Bodega Bay was first settled by the Pomo people. A wharf was built in 1854, and the first store was established in 1857. The town was originally named “Bodega”, but changed its name to “Bodega Bay” when it was incorporated in 1908.

The town of Bodega Bay was hit hard by the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. Many of the buildings collapsed into the harbor. The town was rebuilt, but many of the original buildings were not replaced.

In 1963, the town was used as the primary filming location for Alfred Hitchcock’s movie The Birds. The movie, which starred Tippi Hedren and Rod Taylor, was about a small town being besieged by birds. Many of the scenes were filmed on location in Bodega Bay.

Today, Bodega Bay is a popular tourist destination. It is known for its scenic beauty, its fresh seafood, and its connection to The Birds.
