About Home Gardens CDP, California
Home Gardens CDP, California is a census-designated place (CDP) in Riverside County, California, United States. The population was 8,562 at the 2010 census, up from 5,651 at the 2000 census. It is located between Corona and Jurupa Valley.
The area now known as Home Gardens was originally part of the Rancho La Sierra Mexican land grant. In 1834, Juan Bandini established a rancho here, which he later sold to Louis Rubidoux in 1845. Rubidoux laid out a town here in 1886, which he named Rubidouxville. However, the town did not prosper and it was soon abandoned.
In 1903, the Home Garden Land and Water Company was formed to develop the area. The company built a irrigation system to water the citrus groves that were planted here. The town of Home Gardens was eventually founded in 1911. The name comes from the many home gardens that were started by the residents.
The community remained mostly agricultural until the 1950s when suburban development began to take off. Today, Home Gardens is a diverse community with a mix of residential and commercial development.
