Marysville is a city located in the center of Yuba County, California, United States. The city is located at the confluence of the Yuba River and Feather River, approximately 40 miles (64 km) north of Sacramento. The city’s population was 12,072 at the 2010 census. Marysville is the county seat of Yuba County.
The city was established in 1851 as a trading post called Hammonton by Joseph Hammon, a pioneer from Missouri. In 1856, the city was renamed Marysville after the wife of one of the settlers. The city was incorporated in 1865 and became a charter city in 1866.
The city grew rapidly during the 1850s and 1860s due to the gold rush in nearby cities such as Grass Valley and Nevada City. Marysville became a transportation hub for the region with stagecoaches and riverboats connecting it to other cities in the area. The first telegraph line in California was established in Marysville in 1852, and the first railroad line came to the city in 1864.
With the growth of transportation came an increase in population and Marysville soon became one of the largest cities in California. The city continued to grow throughout the 20th century and by the 2010 census its population had reached 12,072.
