About Twenty-Nine Palms Reservation and Off-Reservation Trust Land, California
The Twenty-Nine Palms Reservation is located in southern California, just east of the city of Twentynine Palms. The reservation covers nearly 5,000 acres of land, and is home to the Twenty-Nine Palms Band of Mission Indians. The tribe has about 1,200 members, most of whom live on the reservation.
The reservation was established in 1876, and the tribe was granted federal recognition in 1936. The tribe operates its own government, with a tribal council and executive branch. The tribe also runs its own schools and businesses.
