El Verano is a small census-designated place (CDP) in Sonoma Valley, Sonoma County, California, USA. The population was 3,292 at the 2010 census. It is the smallest of the three CDPs in the valley and is east of the city of Sonoma.

The area around El Verano was originally inhabited by the Pomo people. In 1823, the Mexican government granted Rancho Los Guilicos to Captain Juan Bautista Valdez, and the area eventually became known as Valle de los Guilicos or Vallejo’s Valley. The first American settlers arrived in the 1850s, and the community was known as Summerfield until it was renamed El Verano in 1917.

El Verano is a mostly residential community, with a few businesses and service organizations. The primary industry is tourism, and many residents work in the hospitality industry in the nearby city of Sonoma.

The climate in El Verano is mild, with warm summers and cool winters. The average high temperature in July is 85 degrees Fahrenheit (29 degrees Celsius), and the average low temperature in January is 42 degrees Fahrenheit (6 degrees Celsius).
