About Ramona Village, California

Ramona Village is a small community located in the San Jacinto Mountains of Riverside County, California. The village is situated at an elevation of 3,700 feet (1,128 m) and is part of the Mountain Communities of the San Jacinto Valley. The population of Ramona Village is approximately 300 people.

The village was established in 1887 by John G. Downey, a former governor of California. Downey purchased 1,200 acres (490 ha) of land in the San Jacinto Mountains and built a summer resort called Ramona Park. The resort consisted of a hotel, cottages, and a golf course. Downey also built a water system to provide the village with water.

In the early 1900s, the village began to grow and became a popular destination for Hollywood celebrities. Several movies were filmed in Ramona Village, including “Ramona” (1910), “The Covered Wagon” (1923), and “The Call of the Wild” (1935).

Today, Ramona Village is a quiet community that is popular with retirees and outdoor enthusiasts. The village has several parks and hiking trails, as well as a nine-hole golf course.
