About Bowles CDP, California
Bowles CDP is a census-designated place in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 2,585 at the 2010 census, up from 1,924 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Victor Valley subregion of the Mojave Desert.
The area now known as Bowles was originally inhabited by the Mohave people. The first Europeans to settle the area were the Spanish, who established a rancho in the area in 1819. The rancho changed hands several times before being acquired by American settlers in the 1860s.
The community of Bowles was established in the early 1900s. It was named after one of its early residents, William H. Bowles. The community grew slowly until the construction of Highway 395 in the 1950s, which brought increased traffic and development to the area.
Today, Bowles is a small community with a population of just over 2,500 people. While it is not a major tourist destination, it does offer visitors a chance to experience a slice of rural California life.
