About Groveland CDP, California
Groveland CDP, California is a census-designated place in Tuolumne County, California, United States. The population was 1,831 at the 2010 census, up from 1,006 at the 2000 census.
The town is located on Highway 120 near Yosemite National Park. It is home to the Groveland Ranger Station of the Stanislaus National Forest.
The community was originally known as Garrotte, after a nearby gold mine. The name was changed to Groveland after a post office was established in 1874.
The town was the site of a sawmill operated by the Tuolumne Lumber Company from 1854 to 1888. The mill cut lumber for use in mining operations and for construction in San Francisco.
In September 2013, Groveland was the site of the Rim Fire, which burned over 250,000 acres of forest and caused the evacuation of the town.
