Blythe is a city in Riverside County, California, United States. The city’s name came from the English word meaning “happy.” The population was 20,817 at the 2010 census. The city is located along the Colorado River in the easternmost part of the county, where the river borders Arizona.

Blythe was established as a construction camp on the California-Arizona Railway in 1877. The city was incorporated on July 21, 1916. The construction of the Parker Dam on the Colorado River in 1934 brought new economic growth to the city with increased tourism and agriculture.

The city has a subtropical climate and receives over 300 days of sunshine per year. The nearby desert provides a variety of recreational opportunities, including off-roading, hiking, and water sports.

Blythe is home to a number of businesses and industries, including agriculture, tourism, manufacturing, and retail. The city is also home to several schools and a community college.
