Tahoma is a census-designated place in Placer County, California, United States. The population was 10,335 at the 2010 census. Tahoma is located on the shore of Lake Tahoe.
Tahoma originally was named after Mount Tahoma, now known as Mount Rainier, in Washington state. In the late 1890s, the U.S. Board on Geographic Names changed the name of the community to Tahoma to avoid confusion with another place called Tahoma in El Dorado County, California.
The first post office opened in 1898.
Tahoma is home to several small businesses, including the Tahoma Market, a general store that has been in operation since the early 1900s.
