About Shell Ridge CDP, California
Shell Ridge CDP, California is a census-designated place located in Contra Costa County. As of the 2010 census, the population was 3,761. The community is located near the city of Walnut Creek.
The area was originally inhabited by the Ohlone people. In 1823, the Mexican government granted land to Jose Maria Amador, who established Rancho San Ramon. The rancho eventually became part of the United States after the Mexican-American War.
In the late 19th century, the area began to be developed for agriculture and dairy farming. In the mid-20th century, suburbanization began to occur as the Bay Area experienced population growth. Today, Shell Ridge is a residential community with some commercial development.
