About Beaumont city, California
Beaumont is a city in Riverside County, California, United States. The population was 36,877 at the 2010 census. It is located at the mouth of the San Gorgonio River and extends west to the I-10 freeway. The city is a part of the Greater Los Angeles metropolitan area.
The area around present-day Beaumont was originally inhabited by the Cahuilla tribe of Native Americans. The first European settlers in the area were Spanish missionaries, who established a mission in San Gorgonio in 1817. The town that grew up around the mission was originally known as San Gorgonio, but was later renamed San Bernardino.
In 1859, the town was renamed again, this time to Beaumont, after Henry John Beaumont, a French-Canadian trapper who had settled in the area.
Beaumont’s location at the mouth of the San Gorgonio River made it a natural place for a ferry to cross the river. A ferry service was established in 1862, which operated until 1932 when a bridge was built across the river.
Beaumont is home to many different industries, including agriculture, tourism, manufacturing, and logistics. The city is also home to several educational institutions, including Mount San Jacinto College and California State University, San Bernardino.
