Gustine is a small city located in Merced County, California. The city has a population of just over 5,000 people and covers a total area of 3.4 square miles. Gustine is known for its annual rodeo and for being the birthplace of actor James Arness.

The city of Gustine was founded in 1871 and was originally named after General John C. Fremont’s wife, Elizabeth Gustine. The city was incorporated in 1914 and has been growing steadily ever since. Today, Gustine is a thriving community with a strong sense of pride and tradition.

The annual Gustine Rodeo is one of the city’s most popular events. Held every June, the rodeo attracts contestants from all over the western United States. The event features bull riding, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, and more.

Gustine is also home to the James Arness Museum, which celebrates the life and career of the actor best known for his role as Marshal Matt Dillon on the long-running television series “Gunsmoke”. Arness was born in Gustine in 1923 and the museum features memorabilia from his time on the show as well as personal items from his life.
