Coloma is a census-designated place (CDP) in El Dorado County, California, United States. It is located northeast of Sacramento in the Sierra Nevada foothills. The population was 1,099 at the 2010 census.
The town of Coloma was founded in 1848 by John Sutter, who discovered gold in the area. It served as a trading post for miners during the California Gold Rush. Today, Coloma is a popular destination for gold panning and rafting on the American River.
