Desert Edge is a census-designated place (CDP) in Riverside County, California, United States. The population was 4,857 at the 2010 census, up from 4,658 at the 2000 census. It is located on the edge of the Mojave Desert, east of Palm Springs and south of Joshua Tree National Park.

Desert Edge was originally developed as a retirement community in the 1970s. Today it is a bedroom community for workers in Palm Springs and other nearby towns. The area is popular with hikers, campers, and birdwatchers.

The climate of Desert Edge is typical of the Mojave Desert: hot and dry in the summer, with cold winters. Rainfall is scarce, averaging only 3 inches (76 mm) per year.

Despite its name, Desert Edge is not actually on the desert edge; most of the CDP is located several miles inland from the desert edge. However, the area does offer stunning views of the desert landscape.
