About Snelling CDP, California
Snelling is a census-designated place (CDP) in Merced County, California, United States. The population was 1,380 at the 2010 census, up from 1,345 at the 2000 census. Snelling is located along State Route 59, 8 miles (13 km) northwest of Merced.
The area now known as Snelling was originally inhabited by the Yokuts Indians. In 1873, the Central Pacific Railroad built a station in the area, which was named after Colonel E.D.B. Snelling, who had surveyed the route for the railroad. A post office opened in 1874.
The Snelling CDP has a total area of 2.4 square miles (6.2 km2), all of it land.
