Goleta is a city in Santa Barbara County, California. The population was 32,371 at the 2010 census, making it the largest city in the county.

The area now known as Goleta was inhabited for thousands of years by the Chumash people. In the late 18th century, Spanish missionaries came to the area and founded the Mission Santa Barbara. The town that grew up around the mission was called Goleta.

In the 19th century, Goleta became a thriving agricultural community, known for its ostrich ranching industry. The city also became a popular resort destination, with visitors coming to enjoy the mild climate and beautiful scenery.
