About Torres-Martinez Reservation, California

The Torres-Martinez Reservation is located in the Colorado Desert of Southern California. The reservation is home to the Cahuilla and Cupeno Native American tribes. The reservation was established in 1876, and covers a total area of 48,000 acres.

The climate of the reservation is very hot and dry, with temperatures often exceeding 100 degrees Fahrenheit. There is very little rainfall, and most of the vegetation on the reservation is desert scrub. Despite these harsh conditions, the Cahuilla and Cupeno people have managed to maintain their traditional way of life.

The Cahuilla people are known for their basket weaving and beadwork. The Cupeno people are known for their pottery. Both tribes continue to practice their traditional arts and crafts, and also participate in modern activities such as farming, ranching, and tourism.
