El Rio CDP, California is a census-designated place (CDP) in Ventura County, California, United States. The population was 10,145 at the 2010 census, up from 9,785 at the 2000 census. It is considered a part of the Oxnard – Thousand Oaks – Ventura metropolitan area.
El Rio CDP is located in central Ventura County, bordered to the north by the unincorporated community of Nyeland Acres, to the east by the city of Oxnard, to the south by the city of Port Hueneme, and to the west by unincorporated areas. The CDP occupies an area of 5.3 square miles (13.7 km2), all of it land.
The 2010 United States Census reported that El Rio CDP had a population of 10,145. The racial makeup of El Rio CDP was 5,812 (57.1%) White, 1,759 (17.3%) African American, 165 (1.6%) Native American, 775 (7.6%) Asian, 94 (0.9%) Pacific Islander, 1,146 (11.3%) from other races, and 540 (5.3%) from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3,239 persons (31.9%).
