About Quartz Hill CDP, California
Quartz Hill is a census-designated place (CDP) in Los Angeles County, California, United States. The population was 10,912 at the 2010 census, up from 9,890 at the 2000 census.
The community is located 10 miles (16 km) northwest of downtown Lancaster and 15 miles (24 km) east of Palmdale in the Antelope Valley. Quartz Hill was originally developed in the late 1950s and early 1960s as a rural residential community. Since the 1990s, the city has grown rapidly, with new housing developments and commercial construction.
The Quartz Hill CDP is located in the southwestern corner of the Antelope Valley, at an elevation of 2,951 feet (899 m). The community is bordered by the city of Lancaster to the south and east, and by the unincorporated community of Palmdale to the north and west. According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 4.6 square miles (11.9 km2), all of it land.
Quartz Hill is part of the Antelope Valley Union High School District. The local high school is Quartz Hill High School. Other schools in the area include Joe Walker Middle School and Pete Knight Elementary School.
