Hemet is a city in Riverside County, California, United States. The city covers a total area of 27.8 square miles (72 km2), about one-quarter of the valley floor. It is surrounded by the San Jacinto Mountains and the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. Hemet has a population of approximately 78,000 people.

The city has a long history dating back to the early 1800s when it was founded as a stagecoach stop. Hemet became a boomtown in the early 20th century when gold was discovered in the nearby mountains. The city grew rapidly until the Great Depression when the gold mines were shut down. Hemet then became a farming community and remained relatively quiet until the 1950s when the city began to grow again. Today, Hemet is a thriving community with a diverse economy and a wide range of cultural and recreational opportunities.
