Woodcrest is a census-designated place (CDP) in Riverside County, California, United States. The population was 13,773 at the 2010 census, up from 11,064 at the 2000 census.
Woodcrest is located in southern California, about halfway between Los Angeles and San Diego. It is part of the Greater Los Angeles Area.
The area now known as Woodcrest was originally inhabited by the Cahuilla people. In 1842, the land was granted to Juan B. Alvarado, Mexican governor of Alta California. The grant was later confirmed by the United States government.
In the late 19th century, the area was settled by farmers of German, Swiss, and Scandinavian descent. The community was originally called Woodcrest because of the many trees in the area.
In recent years, Woodcrest has experienced significant population growth. This is due in part to its proximity to major metropolitan areas and its affordable housing.
