About Covelo CDP, California

Covelo is a census-designated place in Mendocino County, California, United States. The population was 1,255 at the 2010 census, up from 1,175 at the 2000 census. It is located on the Round Valley Indian Reservation, home to the Round Valley Indian Tribes of Covelo.

The town of Covelo is the commercial center of Round Valley, which is otherwise primarily agricultural and ranching land. The main crops grown in the area are hay and cattle. There are also several vineyards and wineries in the area.

The Covelo area was originally inhabited by the Pomo people. In 1856, the Round Valley Indian Reservation was established by Executive Order of President Franklin Pierce. The reservation is currently home to the Round Valley Indian Tribes of Covelo, who are federally recognized.

In recent years, the town of Covelo has seen an influx of newcomers, many of whom are retirees. This has resulted in an increase in property values and a corresponding increase in the cost of living. However, Covelo still retains its small-town charm and is a great place to raise a family or enjoy a quiet retirement.
