About Saticoy CDP, California
Saticoy is a census-designated place (CDP) in Ventura County, California, United States. The population was 8,330 at the 2010 census, up from 7,402 at the 2000 census. It is located approximately 10 miles (16 km) west of downtown Ventura and 6 miles (9.7 km) north of the Los Angeles City Limits.
The community was named after the nearby Santa Clara River, which was itself named by the Spanish explorer Gaspar de PortolĂ who explored the area in 1769. The river’s name refers to Saint Clare of Assisi, on whose feast day the exploration party reached the river.
In 1887, the first post office was established in Saticoy and in 1900, the first schoolhouse was built. The town continued to grow slowly but steadily throughout the 20th century as agriculture became an increasingly important part of the local economy. Today, Saticoy is a vibrant community with a strong sense of history and tradition.
