About Manila CDP, California

Manila CDP, California is a census-designated place located in the San Gabriel Valley region of Los Angeles County. The population was 8,612 at the 2010 census.

The area now known as Manila was originally part of the Rancho San Antonio land grant. In 1852, the area was purchased by Henry Dalton, who established a sheep ranch. A few years later, Dalton sold the ranch to John T. Gately, who used it for growing wheat.

In the late 19th century, the area began to be developed as a residential suburb of Los Angeles. The first subdivision was named Manila Heights, and was developed in 1887. A second subdivision, called Monterey Hills, was developed in 1906.

The Manila CDP is located in the southern part of the San Gabriel Valley, with its southern boundary being the Pomona Freeway (State Route 60). The western boundary is Azusa Avenue, and the eastern boundary is San Bernardino Freeway (Interstate 10). The northern boundary is Orange Avenue.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 1.4 square miles (3.6 km2), all of it land.
