Hamilton City is a census-designated place (CDP) in Glenn County, California, United States. The population was 1,759 at the 2010 census, up from 1,692 at the 2000 census. Hamilton City is located along the Sacramento River, 5mi east of Orland.
The town of Hamilton City was founded in 1876 by William Hamilton, a rancher from Ohio. The city was originally named Hamilton’s Landing, and later shortened to Hamilton City. The city grew slowly due to its remote location, but began to grow rapidly after the completion of the Western Pacific Railroad in 1910.
Today, Hamilton City is a small but growing community. The town has a number of businesses and amenities, including a grocery store, gas station, post office, and elementary school. The community is also home to a number of parks and recreation areas.
