About Diablo CDP, California

Diablo CDP, California is a census-designated place in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 12,865 at the 2010 census. Diablo is located on the eastern side of Mount Diablo.

The town of Diablo was founded in 1856 and originally served as a stagecoach stop between Sacramento and Los Angeles. The town grew rapidly after the discovery of gold in the Sierra Nevada foothills in 1848, and by 1852 there were over 100 buildings in the town. However, the town was virtually destroyed by a fire in 1868, and only a few buildings remained.

Despite its small size, Diablo has a history of being a center of activity in Contra Costa County. In the late 19th century it was a stop on the stagecoach line between Oakland and Sacramento, and in the early 20th century it was a stop on the railroad line between Martinez and Antioch. The town also had a hotel, several restaurants, and a number of other businesses.

Diablo today is a quiet residential community with little commercial activity. It is home to a number of artists and writers, and has a strong sense of community.
