Moraga is a town located in the San Francisco Bay Area of California. It is situated in Contra Costa County and is part of the Lamorinda area. As of the 2010 census, Moraga had a population of 16,716 people.

The town is home to Rancho Laguna de los Palos Verdes, one of the earliest Spanish land grants in the area. The grant was given to Joaquin Moraga, son of Gabriel Moraga (for whom the town is named), in 1835. The rancho included what is now Moraga, as well as parts of Orinda and Lafayette.

The town is also home to Saint Mary’s College of California, a private Catholic college founded in 1863. The college’s campus is located on the edge of town and overlooks the valley and hills beyond.

Moraga is a relatively affluent community, with a median household income of $140,461 as of 2016. It is also a very safe place to live, with a crime rate that is significantly lower than the national average.
