Hawthorne is a city located in southwestern Los Angeles County, California. The city was founded in 1905 as the “Hawthorne Improvement Company” by B.L. Harding and H.D. Lombard. The city is named after Dr. Joel Hawthorne, a pioneer doctor who helped to settle the area. The city is well known for its aerospace industry, which began in 1916 with the opening of the North American Aviation plant. Today, Hawthorne is home to over 60 aerospace and defense companies, making it a major center for the industry in Southern California. In addition to its aerospace history, Hawthorne is also known for its diverse population and cultural amenities.
