About Keddie CDP, California

Keddie is a census-designated place (CDP) in Plumas County, California, United States. The population was 28 at the 2010 census, down from 38 at the 2000 census. Keddie is located on the Middle Fork of the Feather River, 10mi east of Portola, at an elevation of 4279 feet (1306 m).

The town was named after homesteader John Keddie, who arrived in the area in 1854. A post office opened in Keddie in 1874. By the early 1880s, the town had a general store, a hotel, and a sawmill. The sawmill burned down in 1887, but was rebuilt the following year. The Feather River Railroad reached Keddie in 1909, and the town soon became a stop on the Western Pacific Railroad.

In recent years, Keddie has become known for its abandoned resorts. The first resort, Keddie Resort, was built in 1963 and consisted of cabins, a lodge, and a swimming pool. The second resort, Keddie Ridge Resort, was built in 1974 and featured a ski area. Both resorts closed in the 1980s due to financial difficulties.
