Greenfield is a city in Monterey County, California, US. The population was 12,583 at the 2010 census. It is the birthplace of singer-songwriter Richie Valens and is the location of the Greenfield Airport.
The city was originally settled by ranchers and farmers in 1839, and was known as “The Corners”. In 1906, the name was changed to Greenfield when the post office was established. The city grew rapidly after World War II, and incorporated in 1947.
Greenfield is located in central Monterey County, approximately 30 miles southeast of Salinas and 90 miles south of San Francisco. The city lies at an elevation of 330 feet (100 m).
