Douglas City is a census-designated place (CDP) in Trinity County, California, United States. The population was 1,409 at the 2010 census, up from 1,061 at the 2000 census.
This small town is located on the Trinity River, about halfway between Redding and Weaverville. It is a popular spot for camping, fishing, and rafting. There are also several wineries in the area.
Douglas City was founded in 1852 and was named after John Douglas, who built a sawmill here. The town grew rapidly during the 1850s and 1860s due to the nearby gold mines. However, when the mines began to play out, the population declined sharply.
Today, Douglas City is a quiet community with a population that is mostly made up of retirees. However, it is still a great place to enjoy the outdoors and get away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
