Lake Wildwood is a census-designated place (CDP) in Nevada County, California, United States. The population was 1,527 at the 2010 census. The CDP includes the Lake Wildwood gated community and surrounding areas.
The Lake Wildwood community is situated on a plateau about 3,000 feet (910 m) above sea level in the Sierra Nevada foothills, approximately 30 miles (48 km) northeast of Sacramento. It is surrounded by the Tahoe National Forest. The community has its own private water and sewer system, as well as its own volunteer fire department and private security force.
The Lake Wildwood community was developed in the 1960s on land that had been used for cattle ranching and timber harvesting. The development of the community was spearheaded by Bob Prentiss, who also served as its first president. The community was designed to be a self-contained unit, with all amenities within its gates.
The Lake Wildwood Association is the primary governing body for the community. It is responsible for maintaining the common areas, enforcing the rules and regulations of the community, and managing the Lake Wildwood Beach Club and Marina.
