About Auburn Rancheria, California
The Auburn Rancheria is a small community near Sacramento, California. Though the population is only around 200, the Rancheria has a long and rich history.
The Rancheria was founded in the early 1800s by a group of Native Americans from the nearby Maidu tribe. The Maidu were displaced from their ancestral lands by expanding American settlement, and so they settled on the Rancheria land. The Rancheria quickly became a thriving community, with a rich culture and traditions.
In the late 1800s, the United States government began to force Native American communities to assimilate into white society. This meant that the Rancheria people had to give up their land, their language, and their way of life. Many Rancheria people left the community, moving to cities or other reservations.
The Auburn Rancheria has struggled since then, but it remains an important part of Maidu history and culture. The Rancheria people are working to revive their language and traditions, and to keep their community alive.
