About Diamond Springs CDP, California

Diamond Springs is a census-designated place (CDP) in El Dorado County, California, United States. The population was 4,888 at the 2010 census, up from 3,626 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Sacramento metropolitan area.

The town is named after the many diamond-bearing springs in the area, which were known to the local Native Americans and were a source of trade goods.

The first European settlers in the area were gold miners, who arrived in 1848 during the California Gold Rush. A post office was established in 1851.

Diamond Springs was a stop on the Pony Express and later on the stagecoach line between Sacramento and Placerville.

In recent years, Diamond Springs has become a bedroom community for Sacramento and Placerville.
