About Dollar Point CDP, California
Dollar Point is a census-designated place in Placer County, California, United States. Dollar Point is located on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe, 4 miles (6 km) northwest of Tahoe City along State Route 28. The population was 1,527 at the 2010 census.
Dollar Point was originally developed in the early 1920s as a summer community. A number of cottages were built around a central clubhouse and tennis court. In 1926, the Dollar Point Association was formed to provide water and sewer service to the area. Electricity came to Dollar Point in 1937.
Dollar Point has a mix of full-time and vacation residents. There are several hundred private homes, as well as a handful of condo and townhouse complexes. There are also several vacation rental homes in the area.
The Dollar Point HOA maintains a private beach, tennis courts, and a playground for the use of its members. There is also a public boat launch ramp just outside of the HOA boundaries.
In the winter, Dollar Point is popular for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. There are several miles of groomed trails in the area, as well as access to backcountry skiing and snowboarding.
