San Diego Country Estates is a census-designated place (CDP) in San Diego County, California. The population was 10,109 at the 2010 census. The CDP is located in the East County region of San Diego County. It is east of El Cajon, northeast of Alpine, and northwest of Julian.

The area now known as San Diego Country Estates was originally developed in the 1960s as a retirement community. The homes were built on large lots with many amenities such as golf courses, tennis courts, and swimming pools. The community was designed to be self-sufficient, with its own water and sewer system.

In recent years, the community has become more diverse, with families of all ages moving in. The amenities and rural setting make it a desirable place to live for those who want to escape the hustle and bustle of city life.
