About Ponderosa CDP, California

Ponderosa CDP, California is a census-designated place in El Dorado County. It is located in the Sierra Nevada foothills, northeast of Sacramento. The population was 3,010 at the 2010 census.

Ponderosa was originally developed as a summer resort community in the late 19th century. It is named for the nearby Ponderosa Ranch, which was established in 1858 by James Wilson. The ranch eventually grew to encompass over 20,000 acres (8,100 ha).

In the early 20th century, Ponderosa became a popular destination for Hollywood celebrities and socialites. In recent years, it has become known as a bedroom community for Sacramento and the San Francisco Bay Area.

Ponderosa is home to several parks and recreation areas, including the Ponderosa Community Center, which offers a variety of programs and activities for residents of all ages. The community also has its own elementary school, Ponderosa Elementary School.
