El Paso de Robles (Paso Robles) is a city located in San Luis Obispo County, California. The population was 28,695 at the 2010 census. The city is known for its hot springs, wine production, and for being the site of the last battle of the Mexican-American War.

Paso Robles is located on the Salinas River, just south of its confluence with the Nacimiento River. The city is situated at the base of the Santa Lucia Mountains in the Paso Robles Hills. The region experiences a Mediterranean climate with warm, dry summers and cool, wet winters.

The area around Paso Robles was first inhabited by the Salinan Native Americans. The first European settlers arrived in the area in 1797, when Spanish Missionaries established the Mission San Miguel Arcangel. In 1805, the Spanish government granted Rancho del Rincon de San Miguelito to Sebastian Rodriguez, who built an adobe home on the property.

In 1846, during the Mexican-American War, Paso Robles served as the site of the Battle of Monterey Pass, also known as the Battle of Palo Alto Adobe. This was the last battle of the war, and resulted in a victory for the United States.

Wine production began in Paso Robles in 1875, when Hungarian immigrant Andrew Zorn established vineyards on his ranch. The region now has over 200 wineries, and is known for producing Rhône varietals such as Syrah and Grenache.

Paso Robles is also home to several hot springs, which were originally used by Native Americans and then by early settlers for their therapeutic properties. There are now over 20 commercial hot springs resorts in the area.
